The curriculum is enriched by experienced instructors and a series of lectures from visiting industry experts, fostering networking and industry insights. The studio environment is a hive of creativity, where students immerse themselves in a mix of sketches, mind maps, and inspirations, creating a productive yet playful atmosphere. This approach, combined with regular research and exhibition opportunities, ensures our students are deeply engaged with and prepared for the design industry's evolving landscape. Visit the industrial design graduate and undergraduate student projects featured on Dezeen's School Shows. These ten projects highlight innovative thinking and practical design solutions from Georgia Tech's talented design students. As part of a top-ranked research institute, our programs offer an evidence-based approach to design and valuable experiential learning opportunities.

Flexibility with Focus

Most faculty members are practicing designers with extensive experience in the field. Each program offers an interdisciplinary course of study with early emphasis on understanding the design process and developing project-based design skills. Students have the opportunity to be involved in sponsored and/or funded projects. Students are encouraged to expand individual disciplinary talents and respond to changing opportunities in the field. The Georgia Tech MID program offers a well-rounded course of study with early emphasis on exercising design principles and developing project-based design skills.

Undergraduate Academic Support

The Health and Well-Being track adopts a proactive stance in design research, focusing on universal design and the creation of innovative products and services in wellness and health ecosystems. An interdisciplinary team-based approach to integrate industrial design and engineering competencies in user-centered design development of products and systems with emphasis on humanitarian projects. Under the guidance of a faculty member, students explore a design project that relates to advance theoritical research through a human prespective with a design and/or technology focus on a product. The project may include areas in instructional design, human-computer interaction, learning, neuroscience, perception, product design, user-centered design, and usability. This course explores the application of systematic product design methods to projects that focus on the design of new and/or improved health products, interactions, and delivery of services. An interdisciplinary team-based approach to integrate industrial design and engineering competencies in user-centered design development of products and systems with emphasis on corporate-sponsored projects.

Interactive Product Design

Lecture classes introduce students to the history of industrial design, and the breadth of career opportunities afforded by the discipline. With this broad learning in their first year, our students are well-positioned to be skillful, creative problem solvers. The application of systematic user-centered design methods and research to projects focused on the design development of new and/or improved health-related products with an emphasis on inclusive design. This course introduces students to user-centric design methods used to identify, understand, assess and prioritize the neuroscience factors and perceptions that contribute to more effective product design and human-centered design solutions. The goal of the Master of Industrial Design program at Georgia Tech is to equip design leaders to meet these challenges. The program stresses a human-centered, research-focused and evidence-based approach to design in a highly multi-disciplinary environment.
